I happened to read a Guest Opinion in the Great Falls Tribune today written by the Vice President of the Progressive Democrats of Montana, Gene Fenderson. It was titled, “Montana’s longtime senator has not served working folks very well” in which he points out some of the problems his group has with U.S. Senator Max Baucus, D-Mont. I could not find the online version.
It appears some democrats are not too happy with Max’s record for the working folks. For example Mr. Fenderson wrote, “It should come as no surprise then that a number of old-line Democrats and many new progressives have not been happy with Max’s trade or tax policies over his last two terms.”
If my father was still alive, he’d agree with Mr. Fenderson.
Fenderson goes on to talk about Max’s support for NAFTA. By the way, NAFTA is the bill that is allowing Mexican trucks and drivers to roam our highways.
He also lists a ton of other things they are not happy with Max about.
So, is there really unhappiness on the left with the senior senator or is this just a shot fired to bring Max back to the left? Max has been very good about staying close to the center, especially when it’s election time. I think this is what angers the left.
Baucus has been in office for over 28 years. I think most people would be at a loss to name something he introduced himself and it became law.
Mr. Fenderson asks, the question, “Will any democrat step up to represent them?”
That’s a good question, will they?
