It’s party time for democratic Senators Chuck Schumer and Patrick Leahy. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is resigning today.
They must also be a little sad, because the Gonzales issue was surely a great fundraising tool. You know, it’s all about winning the next election in D.C.
After all the crap he had gone through this year, it appeared the storm around him had calmed some. Sure there still were calls for him to resign from almost every Democrat who could write or speak and even some Republicans, but Bush wanted him to stay and that was the final word.
I thought Gonzales would probably be with the Bush Administration until the end because Bush wanted him to stay. I recently read where Bush’s Chief of Staff had told many of his political appointees to get out now or stay until the end of the term, which is in January 2009. It looks like Gonzales decided to leave now. I doubt that the calls for him to step down from the Leahy and Schumer crowd had very little to do with it.
