First up, let’s start in Montana…
GOP launches new website:
I noticed that the Montana GOP has a new website up and running. It’s 100% better than the old one. The address is a little different from the old one. Here’s the new one: http://www.mtgop.us/
As expected, Rehberg stories and photos are all over the place. They have a blog link, with three stories posted, two about Rehberg and one about Tester. The Western Word would hope they keep this one updated (daily) and hire a writer to add some “spice” to the blog.
More Rehberg:
Since he’s on the House Appropriations Committee, he was pleased (and correct) in announcing that Malmstrom would get $26 million for operations, missile system upgrades and maintenance. Rehberg did not mention in his press release the part about the money being shared with the two other missile bases, F.E. Warren and Minot.
This money is to keep the 450 land-based missiles functional and reliable through 2030.
I might point out that this money in no way means they are safe from further cuts through 2030 as we’ve seen the Department of Defense do stranger things. Much stranger.
Some Keenan:
Next up is Bob Keenan and a story about him in Kalispell’s newest newspaper, The Flathead Beacon.
Supposedly Keenan is still undecided about running against Baucus, but first he’ll have to take on Michael Lange (and probably others) in the Republican primary for Baucus’ U.S. Senate seat.
The most interesting quote from Keenan is: “I absolutely don’t know,” Keenan replied when asked by the Beacon. “I doubt that I’m going to run for U.S. Senate, as far as I’m concerned it’s up to the people in D.C. and the Republican Party to have more conversations.
I would have to say that statement is a Keenan-ism. He doubts he will run for U.S. Senate, but then says it is up to the people of DC and the Republican Party. Huh? But like most politicians, he likes attention. Look for this to continue until he announces something.
Then Keenan goes on to tell everyone “I told you so” in regards to Conrad Burns losing the race in which he was a primary opponent. Maybe Keenan should have just said, “I helped Burns lose by 3572 votes by casting doubt in minds of the GOP voters.”
And from outside our beautiful state…
Gonzales = Perjury?
You’ve got to feel sorry for Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales. OK, you don’t have to.
Every time he speaks, he gets in trouble. Every time he speaks, his grave is dug a little deeper. It’s deep enough already.
Now the Democrats say he perjured himself in recent testimony. I’ll bet some days he just wants to say, “I quit.” But as I said before, it’s up to the President.
Veterans Commission Report:
The report is out and predictably there are problems. There’s not much need to go into detail about the 35 recommendations. Twenty-nine of them can be implemented by the Bush Administration, the other six by Congress. So this veteran says get it done NOW.
And finally, we have the story about “Oscar the Death Cat”
This cat, named Oscar, can predict death. He lives in a nursing home, which brings the odds of predicting death pretty high.
I’m glad I read this story because I was thinking of getting a cat, but if the cat crawled up on my bed, I would be thinking, “This might be the end! NO, NO, get down, go away!”
