Are you ready for some Football!! The NFL training camps begin this week with players reporting to their teams throughout the week. You can see where your team holds camp by clicking HERE.
The first pre-season game is August 5. The last preseason game is August 31. The regular season kicks off Thursday, September 6. The Superbowl is February 3, 2008 in Glendale, Arizona. So there you have the basics.
I know what you’ve been going through my NFL friend and the long wait is almost over, so rest easy. We’ve suffered since the final gun sounded at the Superbowl. We watched the Pro Bowl to get a “fix” for our addiction. Then we patiently waited for the draft. We watched the draft for two days just to help us prepare for the long dry spell between draft day and the opening of training camps. We talked to friends about football; we checked our team’s website for any news. We looked up information on the draft picks. We read the paper to see if there had been any trades. Yes, we’ve all been hurting for some football – I hear you.
We watched some of the NBA playoffs and caught a baseball game or two. We even watched a little of the Arena Football League. Nothing took the place of any NFL game. We are hurting. I know how you feel my friend.
So relax and prepare yourself! From now until the final gun at the 2008 Superbowl goes off, we’ll have football. Yes, football. There will be news coming from the camps. There will be rumors, trades, cuts, holdouts, and predictions. Ahh yes, good ol’ football is back.
It’s time to make sure you have your house is in order. Get those chores done now, don’t wait. You don’t want to be working on a project – you want to be sitting in your Laz-E-Boy chair, drinking a cold one, eating some ribs or brats, and watching the games. So make sure your favorite chair is in front of the TV (like you are the king), and check that the TV is ready (is it time to get that new one?), and the surround sound is working. The little things, like checking that the remote has new batteries and that the lighting is perfect and does not cast a glare on the TV, should be on your checklist. You should read TV listings to ensure you know what channels the games are on. Maybe it’s time you and the little wife invest in DirecTV and subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket? The school clothes for the kids can wait, huh?
Thousands of people across the United States are getting ready for football season. Are you with me? I mean REALLY with me? Let’s go…
Jack the Blogger is a Kansas City Chiefs fan who’s attended many games at Arrowhead Stadium. Jack’s “Man Cave” is decorated with Chiefs photos, banners and other stuff he’s collected over the years. He still remembers the Chiefs winning the Superbowl in 1970 and hopes they will get to the Promised Land again before he dies.
Beating the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos brings joy to his heart.

wulfgar- The Larry Johnson issue just got more interesting. Priest Holmes will be in training camp for the Chiefs on Saturday. Although he’s 34, this may make LJ a little jealous because he played behind Holmes for a couple of years.>In regards to San Diego, Marty should not have been canned. Marty put the Chiefs back on the map in the late 80s and 90s. Although he’s not won the big one, he’s a better coach than Norv.
Hey man, at least the Chiefs will stomp the Raiders, and that is something we can both enjoy! >>(And I still think that Herm has a few tricks. Though their schedule appears brutal, as does all of the AFC West, I think they might surprise you. What Spanos was thinking in hiring a loser like Norv I have no idea. As good as that squad is, LT can’t hold them together. And Johnson is a better pure runner. If Edwards gets the productivity out of his defense that he has shown he can, you might be very surprised indeed.)
wulfgar – I don’t know if the Chiefs will make the playoffs this year or not. They were very lucky to make it last year. I think with their schedule 8-8 or 9-7 will be about it. >The Larry Johnson deal is a mess as he is under contract for this season, but he wants LaDainian Tomlinson type money. That would be fine if Larry could block for the QB and catch the ball regularly out of the back field. I think he should honor his current contract as he signed it. I expect them to get some sort of deal done before the first regular season game. >This may be the Broncos year as Jay Cutler did very well after he got a few games under his belt last year. He’ll be better this year. >In regards to DirecTV, I see your point but I will probably subscribe again. I like it because I control what games I see, not some guy sitting in the local TV station. I also like it because you can catch the end of some of the closer games (after the Chiefs are done). >Good luck to the Broncos except when they play KC….
And just for the record, I’m unconvinced that Sunday ticket is worth it anymore. Most of the teams that you and I watch (KC and Denver) appear on local channels anyway. And by the end of the season, with games on ESPN, CBS, FOX, NBC and the NFLn, hardly half of the games get shown on Sunday ticket anyway. I don’t think I’m gonna re-up this year. It ain’t worth what they’re chargin’.
I am completely unashamed to say that this post made me want to cry. It feels like we’ve been waiting soooo long.>>So, is Johnson holding out or what? If so, how do you expect to beat my Broncos? And if not, with Adams plugging the line, how do you expect to beat my Broncos? Hehehe.>>(Just thought it might be time to start the trash talk …)
I feel your pain. Detroit was last in the playoffs in 1999. They last won a playoff game, I believe, back in 1991. >But with a new season fast approaching, we all have hope and we dream that our team will make it to the Promised Land!! Cause we’re all undefeated right now!!
I can’t wait… sadly, I think the Detroit Lions have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Ah well, it’s still football!
