In your letter…you said you didn’t love me…

There’s some anger from the democrats over a letter that was sent from the Pentagon in response to Senator Hillary Clinton’s request for them to detail how they are planning for the eventual withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Iraq.

Clinton is on the Senate Armed Services Committee. She can do things like that.

Even Keith Olbermann from MSNBC’s “Countdown” gave us a “Special Comment” during Thursday’s show about it. Then he interviewed John Kerry.

Eric Edelman, the Defense Department’s undersecretary for policy responded to Clinton’s request saying requests like that gives our enemies hope and scares our allies.

I believe the cat is already out of the bag on this one Mr. Edleman. It started with a few votes in the House and Senate on funding the war and votes on pull-out dates. That probably gave our enemies and allies a clear picture – more than a letter from a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The Western Word wasn’t born yesterday (or the day before) but as I have blogged before: In Washington D.C., it’s all about winning elections. That’s the bottom line on everything back there.

If you are wondering how this exchange between Clinton and Edleman is about winning elections, here’s my opinion:

-Clinton is running in a primary and she needs her base supporters to know she is serious about ending the war because that’s what they want.

-Edleman, a Bush appointee, wants to make Clinton look weak on defense and not presidential, so he basically wrote back to tell her she was traitor for asking that question.

And the fun continues…
