Scooter is free, Paris is free – Is this a great country or what?

The President “commuted” the jail time for Lewis “Scooter” Libby today.

Under the Constitution, the President has the authority to commute, or reduce, a sentence imposed upon conviction of a federal offense, including for convictions obtained in the United States District Courts and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

I think this includes friends and associates.

Scooter (I like that name) was due to serve 30 months in jail for “not recalling” certain events. Most people would get jail time if they were asked to recall something many years ago.

By not recalling some things, Libby was convicted of lying to authorities and obstructing the investigation into the 2003 leak of CIA operative’s identity.

Our great Government’s special prosecutor never did determine who leaked Valerie Plame’s identity.

Scooter will still have to pay a $250,000 fine and be on probation for two years. The Scooter Libby Defense Fund will probably pay for it.

But, he gets to live at home…and work.

This whole thing is hilarious. Scooter has friends and they took care of him, like good friends should.

The Democrats in Congress are friggin’ mad. Keith Olbermann of MSNBC, and the liberal voice on cable TV, ran the “WHITE HOUSE IN CRISIS” banner on the screen and it seemed as though he was about to wet his pants tonight because he was so upset about it. I like Keith but sometimes he dwells on things way too much (O’Reilly, Bush, etc.). Keith nominated President Bush tonight as his “Worst Person in the World.” Tomorrow night, Keith steps up with his special commentary and asks Bush and Cheney to resign – Must See TV!!

Everyone should not fret about this so much. As I have blogged before, when your approval rating is as low as the President’s, what difference does it really make if you do something that makes people, especially your enemies, so upset. When your approval ratings are even lower than the President’s, like Congress’ is, you might as well scream a little, too.

Many people are tired of this Administration and this Congress doing nothing but playing gotcha politics. This Congress is rated lower than ever before and so is the President.

Bush wins on this one. Democrats in Congress can now plot their next move.

Scooter is now free. Paris is now free. How much better can the world get?
