Stalled, Gas, Apology, and Blogging

Stalled?
It looks like the Democrats are running into a problem in getting some of their bills passed and signed into law according to a story titled, “Democrats’ Momentum Is Stalling” that was posted over the weekend in the Washington Post. It is a good read.

They had an aggressive agenda. But, they are suffering the same problem the Republicans had when they were in control: The U.S. Senate.
Basically in the U.S. Senate you need 60 votes to move legislation. That means that the legislation must be favorable to at least 60 senators to get it to pass. The House does not have this rule, so they can move legislation with a simple majority. Then it goes to the senate where many of their bills have stalled.
With this new found majority in the House and Senate, the Democrats will have to learn to play well with others to move some of their legislation. If the Republicans or the Democrats ever obtain 60 seats in the Senate, and have the triple whammy (control of the House, Senate and White House), watch out America!

Gasoline Prices…
Another dent in the democratic takeover of the House and Senate is the new record average of gasoline prices at $3.07 per gallon.
So much for those promises (so far) of ending America’s dependence on foreign oil. The previous record was on the Republican’s watch during August 2006. It was $3.06 per gallon then. Besides the War in Iraq, and Corruption, gas prices were probably right up there as something the democrats would change. I hope they change them by August before vacation time!

Is ethanol the answer…
No, according the ABC News’ 20/20. They say it is a myth that ethanol is the answer to our energy problem. They did a story Friday night called, “Sacrificing Our Children to the ‘Corn God’” which was very interesting and eye opening.

So, the Tribune thinks he should apologize, too….
The Great Falls Tribune editorial team agrees with The Western Word (TWW) in that the Montana Democratic Party Chairman should apologize to Congressman Denny Rehberg, R-Mont., for remarks he made in a press release about Rehberg’s State Director being subpoenaed for a court case.
The Tribune wrote, “At the very least he should publicly apologize.”
Yep he should. But, it looks like the Montana Democrats are still on the offense against Rehberg and his staff. They recently posted this press release on their website.
As I said before, all is fair in love, war and politics….

A different look…
The Western Word decided to do a little work on the blog. Notice how Jack the Blogger is wearing a western-style shirt which is in line with the name of this blog. He’s a cute little cowboy, huh?

Look for more upgrades in the future.
As you can tell, Jack the Blogger is no expert at blogging or being a webmaster. I do this only for fun as a hobby and learn as I go along. I previously blogged a couple years before January 2005, but deleted it and started over with this blog. Thanks to all of the readers. You are growing in numbers each week.
