You Can’t Always Get What You Want…

Around noon today the Democrat controlled Montana State Senate packed up and went home. They voted to adjourn by a party-line vote of 26-24. The Montana State Senate is done for the session.
Now, either the Republican controlled Montana House passes the Senate bills or there will be a Special Session.
It was a great political move. The Western Word (TWW) chuckled.
As I blogged before, if they do have a Special Session, then let’s make this a VERY Special Session and not pay them. It costs around $38,000 a day. This price tag should upset Montanans as there was a job to do and it was not done on time.

Let’s review the basics here:
The Democrats control Montana’s Executive branch (Governor). The Democrats control half of the Legislative branch (Senate). The Republicans control the other half of the Legislative branch (House). The Governor must sign all bills for them to become law. The Senate and the House must agree on what is sent to his desk. One word describes what needs to be done: Compromise.
But, if you are only one-third of the pie, then as the Rolling Stones sing, “You can’t always get what you want…You can’t always get what you want…”
So, if you’re a Republican legislator, you take what you can get and you try harder in the next election to gain more votes. But you don’t force a special session that will cost around $38,000 a day. Duh.
