"Buying the War"

Last night, The Western Word (TWW) was able to watch the PBS documentary, “Buying the War” hosted by Bill Moyers. Your can watch it on-line, now.
It was very well done. It showed us how the wave of emotion from 9/11 turned into a tidal wave to go to war in Iraq. There were a very few journalists who put two and two together and saw very early that the facts were not there. Their stories were not picked up or they were buried so far back in the newspaper, that nobody noticed them. Moyers asked, “How did they get it so wrong? How did the evidence disputing the existence of weapons of mass destruction and the link between Saddam Hussein and 9/11 continue to go largely unreported?”
Most of the mainstream media, both with the liberal and conservative slants, joined in and created the tidal wave to go to war. Most journalists were not being skeptics and instead they were more like cheerleaders. They did not ask the tough questions of the Bush Administration. Maybe they are being harder on the Bush Administration today to make up for being bamboozled. They really don’t have to look too far to find some flaws these days.
It’s an amazing show and one that everyone should watch so this never happens again in our country.

But, we are there now…
Yes, it is very apparent that the United States went there for the wrong reasons (nukes, WMDs, etc.). The intelligence reports were weak OR they were pumped up to make the threats look stronger than they were.
TWW still contends we need “try” and finish the job in Iraq – to get the government there to a level where it can survive. Let this surge in troops have a chance to work. We have a new General (David Petraeus) in charge who understands this type of war. He was confirmed by the Senate 81-0. He took command in February 2007. General Petraeus contends that he’ll know if his plan is working by September. I say we give it a chance.
