The National Anthem

Maybe it’s not a big thing to many people, but The Western Word (TWW) gets a little irritated when I see the National Anthem being played at sporting and other public events and the people attending not following the proper protocol (rules) when it is played.

Maybe the leaders of the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and NASCAR will send out a memo to their people with proper instructions?

The leaders can use Title 36 of the United States Code, Chapter 3, Section 301, when issuing the memo:
During a rendition of the national anthem – (1) when the flag is displayed –
(A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; (B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and (C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and (2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

It’s not a time to chat with your buddies or make jokes. We live in the greatest country on the face of the earth. These “stars” should consider it a privilege to live in this great country and take a couple of minutes to show some respect to our country and our flag. (Where else could they make that much money?)

Color me Red, White and Blue!

  1. >> We live in the greatest country on the face of the earth. That’s a bit presumptous, not to mention sad, when you say it yourself.
