Trouble in Paradise?

It looks like the Democrats in Montana are not too happy with the moderates in their party. According to a story in many Lee Newspapers across Montana, they are forming a group called, “Progressive Democrats of Montana.”

One of the leaders of this new group said about Max Baucus: “Max is a long-time Democrat here. He is the big Kahuna. We have had concern over where Max has been on the issues.”

Do I smell a far-left primary opponent for Mr. Baucus? I don’t think it would matter, but it may soften him up a little for the general election opponent.

It appears Mr. Baucus is taking some early hits and mostly from inside his own party. That can’t be good. I think his people know this as I noticed on one of the blogs I read frequently, Max was taking some hits and his official senate communications director blogged a response. That’s an interesting angle to take.

It seems to me that Max runs to the center about every fourth year of his six year term. This latest story may mean he will have to wait a year.

So far, the story about Max Baucus in The Nation has not seen the daylight in the regular news here in the state. We’ll see if Gwen, Jennifer or Mary Claire sharpen their pencils and go after it.
