As I blogged about on February 20, the Washington Post is continuing to follow the story about the conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Good for the Post.
It now appears the problems have been reported for years, but nothing was ever done. Shameful.
Today, there is a report that the Major General (2 Star) in charge of the hospital has lost his command. That’s a good move. I am sure there are others who deserve the boot, too.
One thing that bothers me here at The Western Word is retaliation. The Army Times ran a story, “Walter Reed patients told to keep quiet.”
This is crap. Of course, the Army denies it.
I imagine it did happen because some of the people who work there may have their jobs on the line. Just ask the Major General as he heads into retirement…
Another story I urge my veteran friends to take a look at is the one about and by ABC News Reporter, Bob Woodruff, called, “To Iraq and Back.” As you may remember, Woodruff was nearly killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq in January 2006. It’s a great report about his situation and those of veterans getting healthcare from the Veterans Administration. His report shows some of the inadequacies in the VA Healthcare System, especially when it comes to head trauma.
Bob Woodruff has an opportunity to take up the call for veterans across the country. I hope he does.
