SHAMEFUL

The Washington Post has been doing a series of stories about the neglect of our military personnel who have returned injured from Iraq.

The ones staying at Walter Reed Military Hospital in a place called Building 18 are subjected to dead mice, cockroaches, mold and holes in the floor.

Shameful.

As a veteran, I am thankful the Post reporters discovered and reported about this mess.

If Jack of the Western Word could be in charge, he would immediately call for the head of Walter Reed Army Hospital’s dismissal. If I found that any employee of the hospital or the VA gave any of these brave men and women any crap about talking to the media, they would be gone, too.

Also, Jack of the Western Word believes that the elected folks representing us back in DC don’t have a damned idea about serving in the military. I’ve said before I don’t think any of them deserve to serve on any military or veterans committee unless they have worn the uniform. This includes the three non-military folks we have back there now from Montana. The elected officials are the ones who can make changes, but they need to have at least a little experience about what they are changing. I have not heard anything out of the Montana Congressional Delegation about this, yet.

I’m sure Congress will throw some money at it and fix it. I’m sure there will be increased calls for mandatory funding for the VA, too.

The question still lingers: Are there other facilities in the VA and in the military out there like this one? Time will tell (with the help of a good reporter or two).
