The House passed a non-binding resolution 246-182 not to support the President’s plan to send 20,000 more troops to Iraq.
Seventeen Republicans voted in support of the resolution while two Democrats voted against it.
Congressman Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) voted against it. Good for him.
“The passage of this legislation will signal a change in direction that will end the fighting and bring our troops home,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said.
I have to believe this is the first step in cutting the funding and tying the military’s hands so much that they cannot do their jobs.
Then, they were leaving town for over a week for a vacation after screwing the troops and the United States.
(H. Con. Res. 63)
(1) Congress and the American people will continue to support and protect the members of the United States Armed Forces who are serving or who have served bravely and honorably in Iraq; and
(2) Congress disapproves of the decision of President George W. Bush announced on January 10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000 additional United States combat troops to Iraq.
I am sure our military folks serving in Iraq and around the world did not enjoy hearing about this vote. I know if I was still in the military, I would not like it. But, they will salute and march on because that’s what they do.
On the other hand, I am sure the terrorists around the world are totally enjoying the vote. It’s given them a reason to carry on.
Are we safer now then we were at this time last year?
The U.S. Senate will attempt to pass the same “non-binding” resolution on Saturday. I already know that Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Senator Jon Tester (D. Mont.) will vote for it.
