Tough Times Ahead for the Military Folks in Montana?

I recently reviewed the committee assignments for the Montana Congressional Delegation (Max Baucus, Jon Tester and Denny Rehberg) in the 110th Congress.

Nobody was fortunate enough to land a seat on a Defense or Military committee.

Mr. Rehberg is the only one on appropriations; his assignments include these two subcommittees:
-Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.
-Financial Services

Mr. Tester, after the hoopla about him getting a seat on Appropriations during his election, did not get the seat. He’s on:
-Committee on Indian Affairs
-Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs
-Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
-Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
-Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship
-Committee on Veterans’ Affairs*
*This is great for the 110,000 Montana veterans, like me.

Mr. Baucus is on:
-Joint Committee on Taxation
-Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry
-Committee on Environment and Public Works
-Committee on Finance

I think Malmstrom AFB and the Montana National Guard may see a decline in the amount of funding they receive since nobody is on a defense or military committee to push the requests through. Will the F-15s for the Montana Air Guard still arrive? Only time will tell.
