Philadelphia Eagles 37 Kansas City Chiefs 31

A heartbreaker on Sunday for us Chief fans. Ouch!
The Kansas City Chiefs built a 24-6 lead and lost 37-31. I think the slide started for the Chiefs with 2:45 left in the second quarter when RB Larry Johnson fumbled. The Eagles scored about a minute later and the comeback was on. Coach Vermeil did say in the postgame that the fumble was not Johnson’s fault. He claims the blocking was wrong and that was the fault. The problem for me is this is Johnson’s second major fumble in as many games. I don’t agree with Vermeil on this one – there’s a trend starting here with Johnson fumbling.
It’s tough watching your team lose the momentum. The Chiefs had them on the ropes and let them get away. The Eagles are a good team and it showed.
But, terrible play and the turnovers (4) killed us.
Good news: Dante Hall tied an NFL record for kickoff returns (6) in the second quarter with 4:27 left when he returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. That made the score Chiefs 24 Eagles 6. I think Hall will break the NFL record this season.
I believed at the beginning of the season if we finished 2-2 or better after the first four games, the Chiefs would be in an OK position. I still think we are OK and have a chance to make the playoffs. Next week we have a bye week and it comes at a good time. But, we also have the Washington Redskins coming to KC on October 16. I heard in the postgame that the Chiefs players will come in on Monday and then have the rest of the week off. I’m not a football coach, but I would have told the Chiefs that they would have the week off IF they won. Looks like our defense needs a lot of work on their pass defense (Owens had 171 yards on 11 catches and McNabb threw for 369 yards). Larry Johnson needs to have a football duct-taped to his hands for the week.
Hopefully the Chiefs will rebound and win against the skins on 10/16.
