Indianapolis 500 and Danica Patrick

OK, Sunday has to be a race fan’s dream day-The Indianapolis 500 and Coca Cola 600. Yea, there’s still a little red-neck left in me!
I remember listening to the Indy 500 on the radio when I was a kid and I try to watch it every year. I was disappointed a few years back when there was a split and two leagues were formed and one boycotted the Indy 500. I think that took some luster off the race.
This year, I think it is back with Danica Patrick, the 23 year-old rookie who started and finished fourth and even lead some 0f the race – the first female to ever lead the Indianapolis 500. A great story and to those “he-man-woman-haters” in the world – Get over it – there’s now a 5’1″ 100lb young lady who can compete with the boys and that’s fine with me – Indy racing needed it. How does she compare to the other women who raced at Indy? Only three others have ever raced – Janet Guthrie, Lyn St. James, Sarah Fisher. Guthrie was the only one to ever finish in the top 10 (until now) qualifying on the outside of row five in eighth place and coming ninth way back in 1978.
Probably not too many people will remember that Dan Wheldon won the race. His car owner is Michael Andretti, who never could quite win the big one, but he has now as an owner. Congrats!
