Caught My Eye…

For some reason “Cruel Summer” by Bananarama is stuck in my head today.  Here’s the video so you can have it stuck in your head, too.

It has been a “cruel summer” with all the unemployed people among us, but we get to end it with a three-day weekend – but if you don’t have a job, you have more than a three-day weekend…

By the way, autumn really does not start until September 23.

Here at The Western Word we know you’re itching to leave work and start your weekend.  We understand that – but “Caught My Eye” will serve as filler until the boss lets you go (I hear everyone is getting to leave early today).  It might give you something to talk about on the beach or around the campfire this weekend, too.

This week we take a look at a man named Bullock, a lawsuit, Iraq, the President’s speech, my political inbox, jobs, t-shirts, pigs, and much more – so read on! Continue reading

Thursday Numbers

Happy September – now summer is really winding down which, in itself, is depressing.  But football is starting, so that should make things better!

Each week I take a look at some of the numbers in the news and out them in one nice place for all to see.  This week we talk about movie tickets, contracts, waste, unemployment, pay to play, fans, followers, taxes, and much more – so please read on… Continue reading

Monday Morning Politics

It’s back once again – Monday Morning Politics!

While you were out and about enjoying yourself this weekend, the staffers here at The Western Word were looking for political stories all across the World Wide Web.  We’ve put them in one place so you can be “in the know.”

This week we take a look at politics and Little League Baseball, the Montana U.S. Attorney’s office, Tester and public lands, gadflies and activists, and much much more!

Also, you won’t read anything about Hurricane Irene.  We grew very tired of hearing about it over and over and over.

So grab something to drink and get your Monday started off right by knowing the most important political news from the weekend… Continue reading

Caught My Eye…

To many of my readers, your children will be starting back to school this week – congratulations on making it through another summer!  But to some, there’s one big holiday left before classes start again, so hang in there you’ve almost got it made.  I personally prefer school starting after Labor Day and ending before Memorial Day.

To celebrate the end to another fabulous summer, this is a special “Caught My Eye!” You really need to read it and catch that “end of summer” feeling!  To the new folks visiting for the first time, Caught My Eye is my weekly look at the stories I did not have time to write about during the week – offered up with some commentary and sometimes a bit of sarcasm!

This week we take a look at a special road trip, picketing, Michael Vick, Wi-Fi names, earthquake jokes, Danica, Cheney, school starting, high school football and more. Oh yes, I share some of the e-mails from “My Political Inbox,” too!

So grab a cup of something with caffeine in it, plus a donut or bagel (it’s Friday) and read on… Continue reading

Thursday Numbers

If it’s Thursday, then my faithful readers know that’s the day we take a look at the numbers and the stories behind the numbers here at The Western Word!

Today we look at unemployment claims, Facebook likes, campaign donations, lottery winnings, the cost of a home, veterans, a birthday, a home run, and much much more!

Since you’ve almost got this week conquered, it’s OK to take a few minutes and enjoy my Thursday Numbers column.  Psst…your boss is probably reading it, too. Continue reading

Monday Morning Politics

For the past several Mondays, we’ve taken a look at some of the political stories that hit the World Wide Web over the weekend.

Why?

Because we don’t really have a life here at The Western Word – and it’s so you won’t have to waste your time looking for the political stories.  Plus, you will seem more politically intelligent to your family and co-workers…and we know that is important to you.

This week we take a look at a silent tour, out of state money, social security, Sarah Palin, Denny and Jon, Jon and Denny, Missoula elections, Little League, and much more!

So grab something to drink and get your Monday started off right by knowing all the political news from the weekend! Continue reading

Caught My Eye…

Oh man – just a few hours until we make it to another summer weekend!  Congrats!

Your reward is another edition of the (almost) award-winning column “Caught My Eye.”  Caught My Eye is the column where I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week – and offer some commentary (as well as some sarcasm).

It’s the column that the “political junkies” from around the country visit to see if their candidate made “The Political Inbox” section, or if they even received a mention in Caught My Eye…

This week we take a look at Little League baseball, a goodwill trip, treatment of the media, nude fishing, what the New York Times says about the Rehberg/Tester race, abandoning veterans, and what showed up in my political inbox.

So grab a cup of your favorite drink, sit back and relax, and enjoy the read… Continue reading

Caught My Eye…

Happy Friday – we made it again!  Summer vacations are winding down and school starts soon – what a freaking bummer – but we do have about three weekends left before “the end.”

For the new folks, Caught My Eye is the (almost) award-winning weekly column where I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.  I offer some brief comments about the stories and sometimes add just a touch of sarcasm!

This week I talk about the Iowa debate, the Downpour Music Festival, I check the e-mails in my political inbox, I comment about rural air service, talk about the supercommittee and much more!  So please read on… Continue reading

Thursday Numbers

Welcome to Thursday – also called the day before Friday – you’ve just about got this week under your belt!  Congratulations!

Today in “Thursday Numbers” we take a look at salaries, unemployment, the stock market, Facebook “likes,” a fish, veterans, states that lean Republican and Democrat, and much more!

If you are going to read one column on The Western Word website this week, this is it – so that you can be in the know – Click on “more” ( if you don’t see the whole column) to be in the know…and dazzle your friends… Continue reading

Monday Morning Politics

Welcome to another Monday – and boy did I need some caffeine to get myself jump-started this morning.

First of all, my condolences go out to the family and friends of the military personnel who lost their lives in the Friday night crash in Afghanistan.  You are in my prayers.

Monday Morning Politics is the column where I take a look at some of the political stories that caught my attention over the weekend and I put them in one spot for all to see.  I also offer some commentary.

Today we take a look at the Tea Party Downgrade, Montana Veterans, the future of Lt. Gov. Bohlinger, using the word “soldiers,” a ballot initiative, the FAA, and more!

So read on to get your Monday morning political fix!   Continue reading
