Montana House 2012: Finding an Angle

According to the Montana Secretary of State’s website, there are 11 candidates running for Montana’s only U.S. House seat (At-Large).  There are seven Democrats, three Republicans, and one Libertarian candidate on the list (and a partridge in a pear tree).

Just kidding about the partridge…

Most political observers believe that Steve Daines is the presumptive nominee on Republican side, but those same people do not see a front-runner on the Democratic side – and we’re about a month away from the absentee ballots hitting mailboxes and about two months from the primary election on June 5.  Continue reading

Politics 2012: Jet Setters, Wolves, and Clowns

Happy Tuesday!  Hold on…the weekend will get here – I promise!

Today I take a look at our jet setting Senator and Congressman, I examine a new poll, I find even more silliness from the Republicans, I write about the gubernatorial candidates debating wolves, I discuss the postal service and voting, and I close out the column talking about the General Services Administration and clowns…

Monday Morning Politics

Happy Monday faithful readers – I am blessed that you stopped by – so thank you!  We are now entering April and spring fever is in full swing.

Since Saturday night was the deadline for the first quarter of fundraising, many politicians are waking up in piles of money raised (more on that below).

If you are new to Monday Morning Politics, this column is where I take a look at political stories from the past weekend and provide (sometimes snarky) commentary about them.

Today I write about a new poll, Baucus and Rehberg as The Godfather, military support, going to court with the Governor, profiles of the candidates, non-native, a big dinner, hiring veterans, I share some fundraising e-mails, I talk about the transportation bill and much more! Continue reading

Monday Morning Politics

Happy Washington’s Birthday 2012!  If you are one of the fortunate ones to have the day off, congratulations!

Almost every Monday (even on holidays) I gather a lot of the political stories from the past weekend and put them all in one place for all to see – and I often add a little commentary!

Today I take a look at the best recent Presidents, charging $93 billion, out of state money, letting it flow, Decision 2012 coverage, Stolen Valor, rural voting, and to Russia with Max!  There’s a lot more…

Monday Morning Politics

This past Sunday (Feb. 12) was the first Sunday since September 4 that a football game was not played.  I know I know it depressed me, too.  Watching basketball and the Grammys did not help much, either.

Politics is kind of a sport, so watching the back and forth between the candidates and political groups can be fun!  That’s why I started “Monday Morning Politics.”  This is where you can find many political stories from the past weekend – and I add some commentary!

Today I write about Rehberg’s counter offer, millionaires, Chamber ads, Gallik speaking, a Montana accent, severe conservatism, good reporting, and much more!

Caught My Eye…

Here we go – we made it to Friday (FINALLY).  This is your chance to get away from it all for a few minutes and enjoy this week’s edition of “Caught My Eye.”

Caught My Eye is posted almost every Friday morning right here!  This is the column where I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to comment about during the week (and often with just a touch of sarcasm).

Today I talk about Obama and REO, Three Cups, Schweitzer-care, contraceptives, eating wings, a poll, I share some of the e-mails from my political inbox, I write about No Child Left Behind, I give you a laugh with a Will Ferrell video, I mention the Governor Candidates forum, and the Winter kick-off.

One more thing – some important people were born today…and I tell you who they are!

Jets are just sexier…

Like many folks, I was very happy to hear about the Montana Air National Guard possibly obtaining a new aircraft mission (C-130).

I say “possibly” because this change in missions is planned for well into the future (almost two years) so anything can happen that could alter those plans.  The world is ever-changing and so are defense and security needs.  There could be a change in administrations.  The state where the eight planes are scheduled to come from could have a congressional delegation that puts up a fight to keep their planes.  Finally, our country is in deep financial trouble and there need to be cuts.

I also enjoyed poking a little fun at some of the story like Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer and his Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. John Walsh issuing a press release (the day before) that told us they “believe they will receive notification of the new flying mission…” Continue reading

Caught My Eye…

A long long time ago
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile…

Today is “the day the music died” – and The Western Word honors that day, so read on!

Welcome to the 80th edition of “Caught My Eye!”  Caught My Eye is posted almost every Friday morning right here!  This is the column where I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to comment about during the week (and often with just a touch of sarcasm).

Today I talk about planes in Great Falls, the Political Practices soap opera, a birthday, unemployment, Komen/Planned Parenthood, I share the e-mails from my political inbox and I close it out with American Pie.  Enjoy the read and enjoy your Friday…
