Politics 2012: Money, Enthusiasm, & Beam Me Up

And just like that you’ve made it to Wednesday, congratulations!  It is downhill to the weekend from here.  I promise the weekend will get here…

Today on The Western Word I write about the money in the Montana Governor and Attorney General’s race, I mention the lack of enthusiasm for Romney (I found a poll to prove it), I write about Rehberg’s belt buckle, I mention a correction, and I take us back to 2002 where we hear from James A. Traficant.  There’s more so read on…

Politics 2012: Contested!

I happened to see a letter to the editor that appeared in the Great Falls Tribune yesterday from Gary Marbut of Missoula regarding current House District 18 Representative Jesse O’Hara (Republican).  Marbut was not too happy with O’Hara’s votes on gun issues in the last Montana Legislature.  O’Hara is running for re-election.

You can read the letter HERE.

According to this website, Marbut is the President of the Montana Shooting Sports Association (MSSA).  In his letter he throws his support behind Republican Randy Pinocci.  O’Hara and Pinocci will be facing off in the GOP primary in June and the winner will take on Democrat Colter McCarty in the General Election. Monday Morning Politics

Here we go once again – another Monday!  I hope your Easter was blessed!

For being an Easter weekend, there sure were a lot of political stories.  I’ve managed to put many of them all in one place for you to see.  If you are new to “Monday Morning Politics,” this column is where I take a look at many of the political stories from the past weekend and provide (sometimes snarky) commentary about them.

Today I write about Tester’s new TV ads, Rehberg’s flyers, the F-18 crash, the Governor’s taxes, the Governor’s health clinic, Miller’s photo, candidates and social media, Daines and the GOP field, a personal story about Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes, and much more! Continue reading

Montana House 2012: Finding an Angle

According to the Montana Secretary of State’s website, there are 11 candidates running for Montana’s only U.S. House seat (At-Large).  There are seven Democrats, three Republicans, and one Libertarian candidate on the list (and a partridge in a pear tree).

Just kidding about the partridge…

Most political observers believe that Steve Daines is the presumptive nominee on Republican side, but those same people do not see a front-runner on the Democratic side – and we’re about a month away from the absentee ballots hitting mailboxes and about two months from the primary election on June 5.  Continue reading

Politics 2012: Jet Setters, Wolves, and Clowns

Happy Tuesday!  Hold on…the weekend will get here – I promise!

Today I take a look at our jet setting Senator and Congressman, I examine a new poll, I find even more silliness from the Republicans, I write about the gubernatorial candidates debating wolves, I discuss the postal service and voting, and I close out the column talking about the General Services Administration and clowns…

Monday Morning Politics

Happy Monday faithful readers – I am blessed that you stopped by – so thank you!  We are now entering April and spring fever is in full swing.

Since Saturday night was the deadline for the first quarter of fundraising, many politicians are waking up in piles of money raised (more on that below).

If you are new to Monday Morning Politics, this column is where I take a look at political stories from the past weekend and provide (sometimes snarky) commentary about them.

Today I write about a new poll, Baucus and Rehberg as The Godfather, military support, going to court with the Governor, profiles of the candidates, non-native, a big dinner, hiring veterans, I share some fundraising e-mails, I talk about the transportation bill and much more! Continue reading

Politics 2012: “Like”

With campaign season in full swing, it is fun to see how the candidates, their supporters, and their opponents are using social media sites, like Facebook, to get their message out.

We see the normal “Women for XXXX” and “Veterans for XXXX” “Students for XXXX” plus there are Facebook pages for several local and state-wide candidates just waiting for you to “Like” them – so get out there and explore!

Listed below are a few sites that I found interesting:

Dogs Against Romney” states that they are about “Educating the public about Romney’s treatment of his pet.”  This site has 43,486 likes.  They proudly say they are a “Super Pack.”  They provide a link to a website that has the story about Romney’s “dog on the car roof” vacation story.  Continue reading

More Flexibility

It’s been interesting to see the responses to the comments made by President Barack Obama to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev regarding America’s Missile Defense.

I really don’t think the sky is falling, but the remarks did give the Republicans something to raise money on, so be on the lookout for e-mails from the GOP telling us about “secret plots” by Obama for his second term.  We might even see the GOP send us e-mails saying that Obama will be calling us “comrade” if he wins a second term – and look for the 1984 film “Red Dawn” make a comeback this summer!  Wolverines!!!

According to ABC News, this was what was picked up by microphones: Continue reading

Monday Morning Politics

It’s Monday and it’s snowing – but spring is almost here (my glass is half-full)!  Monday Morning Politics was posted just a little late this morning, as I was busy scooping snow.  In case this is your first time stopping by, this is the column where I take a look at some of the political news from the past weekend and put it in one place for all to see.  I also add my personal commentary!

Today I take a look at Libertarians and Montana, a Romney fundraiser, a dream candidate, flunking transparency, candidates and battle lines, Sweet Home Alabama, raising $45 million, and much more!

Wednesday Potpourri

It’s hump day – and that means we are just about on the downhill side of another week!  Hang in there – the weekend will get here soon.

Today I comment about money in Montana politics, campaign loans, frontrunner, and I close it out with my thoughts (as a veteran) about the war in Afghanistan.  So read on…
