8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
I remember Sundays being a lot quieter when I was growing up. I was not raised in a church-going family although my parents believed in God. My parents sent me to Vacation Bible School each summer to learn about God. I thought Vacation Bible School was where we played football and took breaks to make something with a photo or verse about Jesus on it.
In my youth, Sundays were when stores were seldom open. I remember my dad complaining about needing a part for his car or dump truck or backhoe and the stores being closed. Alcohol was not sold on Sundays back then. I remember this vividly because I turned 21 on a Sunday.
Now, Sundays are almost like every other day – we live in a fast-paced world. There’s very little time to relax and to “decompress.” We have little time to rest and Sundays are not as “Holy” as they once were.
We seem to have forgotten about keeping the Sabbath day holy. Each week we need to take a day to relax and get away from the world – and we need to take that time to get closer to God.The music video this week is from Skillet – “The Older I Get.” Enjoy!
Have a great week!
