The Sunday Message

“I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that’s real”

-Johnny Cash, “Hurt”

Friday was a very sad day in the United States. There are so many questions about the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, such as “How could anyone go to an elementary school and kill innocent children?”

We may get a few answers in the following days and weeks, but we may never fully understand why this happened. We will hear calls for stricter gun laws and other things, but we need to remember the children and the adults who were senselessly killed on Friday, December 14, 2012.

One thing (the best thing) we can do is pray for the families of those who lost loved ones. Please pray for the first responders, the school employees, and the children who had to see the consequences of shooting. Please pray for the citizens of Newtown and the surrounding area. Please pray that God will comfort them during this time, as it will be very hard for them. This will leave a hole in their hearts.

Today’s verses are from Psalm 46:1 (NLT), “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble” and Proverbs 3:5 (NIV), “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

I pray that the people affected by this tragedy will find comfort.

The music video today is “Hurt” by Johnny Cash. Enjoy…
